Conservative candidate for the Bay of Quinte riding Ryan Williams celebrated the opening of his new campaign office in Belleville with a ribbon cutting on Thursday.
The new Belleville location is at 62 Dundas Street West.
It is the third campaign office, with other locations in Trenton and Picton.
Speaking with Quinte News, Williams spoke about the announcement of global tariffs from US President Donald Trump on Wednesday.
“Pierre (Poilievre) announced (Thursday) morning, he’s taking GST off new cars made in Canada but the whole story is, we want to make sure we’re more competitive,” Williams said.
“We talk about making ourselves more competitive. It means dropping taxes, getting rid of these carbon taxes, and ensuring that our companies compete internationally, because we don’t want to lose any jobs, the 6000 (local) jobs directly, or 34,000 jobs that will be affected if the carbon tax comes on our local industry here.”

Williams also took aim at Liberal candidate Chris Malette.
He says that Malette’s support of speed cameras in the City of Belleville as a councillor run parallel to the carbon tax.
“It’s a cash grab from people who can’t afford it at this point. They are struggling with rent. They’re struggling to put groceries on the table. It is looking at an option for tax, which is against the other option, which is calming measures, or other measures that would help either make us more environmental or to have safety for our city,” Williams tells Quinte News.
“My point would be, we have to get rid of the cash grabs.”
The common issues that Williams says he hears at the door are taxes and affordability.
