One person was taken into custody following an incident that lasted several hours in Cramahe Township.
Northumberland OPP responded to a home around 6 p.m. on Monday evening after receiving information that a person was experiencing a crisis and in possession of an unauthorized weapon.
Police arrived and were able to ascertain the weapon to be a firearm.
Containment was established for the safety of those involved and nearby residences, and members of the Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit were dispatched to assist.
Crisis Negotiators were also engaged, and officers were later joined by members from the Tactics and Rescue Unit.
Officers took the individual into custody without incident around 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit was also engaged to assist with the investigation and carry out a search warrant at the residence.
As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old male, from the Township of Cramahe, has been charged with:
– Possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with
– Unauthorized possession of a firearm
– Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order.
The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
