The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is welcoming three new elected student trustees.
All three students have been elected by their student senate peers for the upcoming 2025/2026 school year.
The school board submitted the following quotes from each student.
Congratulations to Ray Mathew, a Grade 11 student at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in Kingston, who will represent the east jurisdiction of the board.
“Through volunteering I have learned that leadership is not only about speaking up, but also listening, serving others, and creating an environment where everyone feels welcome,” said Mathew. “School is like a second home where everyone should feel heard and safe. Taking on the role of student trustee calls for advocating for positive change and making sure every student has the opportunity to make a difference.”
We welcome back Emily Esperanzate, a Grade 11 student at Nicholson Catholic College in Belleville. Emily was acclaimed as student trustee representing the west jurisdiction of the board. Emily is currently in the position of student trustee and looks forward to continuing her leadership role and amplifying student voice.
“With this role, I intend to leverage my experiences and insights to foster the vibrancy this community has, while ensuring that everyone can shine to the brightest of their abilities,” said Esperanzate.
Congratulations to Gabrielle Jette, our student trustee who will represent Indigenous voice. Gabrielle is a Grade 11 student at St. Theresa Catholic Secondary School in Belleville.
“A student trustee should have cultural connection, confidence to advocate for all, determination, and strong leadership skills. As an Indigenous student trustee, I intend to utilize these abilities and ensure that all Indigenous voices are heard and recognized,” said Jette.
The incoming trustees will be sworn in at the June Board Meeting.
