On Saturday March 29, 2025 at approximately 1:45 p.m., Kingston police responded to reports of gun shots in the area of William Hackett Park near Portsmouth Avenue and John Counter Boulevard.
Officers received information that an individual was observed emerging from the bush area and leaving the area in a pickup truck. Responding officers quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
Upon speaking to officers, the driver of the truck disclosed that they had been in that area and had discharged their firearm. Upon searching the vehicle officers discovered a 22-caliber long rifle, approximately 25 rounds of ammunition, three spent ammunition casings and two deceased Canada geese.
The 19-year-old driver of the vehicle, from Kingston, was arrested and charged with use/handle/store firearm carelessly, possession of weapons dangerous to public peace and discharge firearm being reckless as to the life or safety of another person.
Further investigation revealed the individual to be in possession of a number of firearms at their residence. Officers attended the accused’s residence and seized the following items:
- .410 single shot shotgun
- .22cal black rifle with scope
- .308cal lever action rifle with scope
- 12-gauge shotgun black
- 14 rounds of .308 ammunition
- MP5 replica pellet gun and magazine .177
- three .177 pellet rifles
- two .177 pellet handguns
- .177 pellet ammo tins
- Black rifle case
