Thousands of people in the wider Quinte region are without power this morning because of the ice storm which has brought branches and some trees down on power lines damaging some electrical equipment.
In urban Belleville, Elexicon Energy reports over 5,000 customers have been in the dark since shortly before 2 a.m. and the power might not return until this evening. The outage originally covered the area west of North Front Street, from the 401 down to the waterfront, however some areas that were affected have had power restored.
A smaller outage is affecting the area around Victoria and Herchimer avenues. Elexicon says that outage will be cleared before 3 p.m.
Outside of the city there are scattered outages, with the largest being around Campbellford south to Frankford, affecting over 6,000 customers. Hydro One says some customers could be without power for much of the day.
Over 8,000 customers are without power in the Bancroft area.
Well over 200,000 Hydro One customers are without power in the province.
Some roads, especially to the north, are ice covered. Highway 37 is closed to all traffic at highway 7 after an accident. Highway 401 remains open to traffic but you should avoid driving until conditions improve.

Forecasters say temperatures should rise to around plus 5 today and the freezing rain is expected to change to showers by this afternoon.
