Kate Crothers is the NDP candidate for Bay of Quinte riding,
The Picton resident is a small business owner, community organizer, and mother of four.
She believes the heart of her community already lies in the NDP’s values.
Audio Player“I watch neighbours every day rally for each other. I watch citizens gather together to support the vulnerable. And I believe that a community works better when our social programs are supporting those in need. When people have housing and have access to health care, we all do better.”
Crothers is the founder of Crothers and Co., an interiors, garden, and floral studio.
She says she’s well aware of the challenges faced by families with the cost of living affecting almost everyone.
Audio Player“I’m hearing from families who are choosing to either pay rent or feed their kids. I am hearing from arts programming that’s experiencing super low enrolment because families can’t afford extra-curriculars. As a small business owner in this community, I hear from my trades, I hear from my peers, like work is slow right now across the board and it feels very unstable and there doesn’t seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel right now.”
She says tax breaks promised by the NDP will benefit working class families.
Asked about the potential of vote splitting between the Liberals and NDP, benefitting the Conservatives, Crothers says the Grits are creeping closer to the centre, especially being represented by a leader who has historically been working for the billionaire class.
Audio Player“We need to throw our vote behind somebody who is going to protect our social programming. I think the goal here is making sure the Conservatives don’t have a seat in government and choosing the representative that’s really going to do a good job for our community. And I believe I am that person who’s going to carry the message to our federal government what we need back home.”
The election is scheduled for Monday April 28.
