The Belleville Senators and Cleveland Monsters had a tight game going for the first 26 minutes, and then it wasn’t.
Cleveland scored four in a row including three unanswered goals on just five shots on Leevi Merilainen in the third in a 5-1 drubbing of the B-Sens.
The Senators outshot the Monsters 33-28.
Cole Reinhardt (13th) scored Belleville’s lone goal.
The two-game sweep by Cleveland moves them into fourth place in the AHL North, now six points up on sixth place Belleville.
In between is the Syracuse Crunch in the last playoff spot with a game in hand.
Belleville’s homestand continues Friday night when they host the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers) followed by the Toronto Marlies’ final trip to Belleville on Saturday.
Both games are at 7 o’clock.
