Central Hastings OPP say a traffic stop for speeding has resulted in impaired driving charges for a Belleville resident.
Saturday, shortly before 3 p.m., an officer with the OPP TIME (Traffic Incident Management Enforcement) team was driving on Highway 37 near Tweed when he was passed by a car travelling at more than 120 kilometres per hour in an 80 zone.
The car was stopped, and an approved roadside screening device was utilized. The driver was arrested and transported to an OPP detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Karlee Degazio, age 24, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Dangerous operation of a vehicle
- Driving a vehicle with liquor readily available
- Speeding
- Fail to surrender driver’s licence
- Fail to surrender insurance card
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on April 10.
The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
