It is just over a month until the federal election and it appears that the Liberal nomination has lots of interest in the Bay of Quinte riding.
Quinte News has been told by several sources that retired journalist and Belleville City Councillor Chris Malette is a leading name for the ballot April 28.
On Monday, Bay of Quinte Federal Liberal Association Chair Ken Manderville told local media they were close to announcing their candidate.
Malette has been a Belleville city councillor since 2018 and worked decades at the Belleville Intelligencer as the managing editor, among other positions.
Former Ontario Liberal Candidate Emilie Leneveu works for the United Way HPE, Software Engineer Steven Solarz, and Social Entrepreneur Janeen Halliwell are in the vetting process along with Malette.
Carson Arthur, Host of “Take It Outside” on CJBQ was garnering support for a bid, but says he was told he was too late.
The central party in Ottawa can either select one of the four who filed papers, or acclaim another candidate of their choosing.
They do not have to live in the riding.
As of early Wednesday morning 75-percent of Ontario ridings for the federal election had a Liberal candidate.
