There’s a lot of interest from construction companies in a major infrastructure project in west-end Belleville.
The city’s Manager of Engineering Deanna O’Leary says 12 companies have submitted information for a pre-qualification process leading to some of them being asked to submit a tender for Contract #1 of the Avonlough Pumping Station and Conveyance System project.
The estimated budget for the contract is $20 million and the work will include a new pumping station and two sewer mains from Avonlough Road to the intersection of Bridge Street West and Palmer Road.
Contract #2 will bring the sewer and partial water service further down Bridge Street into the downtown area and includes the widening of the Bridge and Sidney streets intersection.
Construction is expected to start in the spring or early summer and continue through 2027 at a cost of $57 million. The federal government announced $16.1 million for the project on Saturday.
