A routine traffic stop on Highway 417 near Hawkesbury has resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine.
A member of the Hawkesbury OPP was on patrol on Hwy 417 west on Wednesday, March 19, shortly before 10:30 a.m. when he saw a vehicle being driven erratically.
The officer stopped the car and spotted suspicious material inside.
Further investigation, in conjunction with the OPP East Region Community Street Crime Unit, resulted in a search warrant being issued, leading to the discovery of approximately 160,000 suspected methamphetamine pills.
A 30-year-old male from Rawdon, Quebec has been charged with:
– Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
– Operation of a vehicle while prohibited
– Fail to comply with a probation order
– Unsafe move – lane or shoulder
– Drive with window coated – view obstructed
– Possess unmarked cigarettes
A 31-year-old male from Montreal has been charged with:
– Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking x 3
– Fail to comply with a probation order x 3
Both accused were held for bail hearings before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal.
