The number of people collecting employment insurance cheques in the area was virtually the same in January compared to the month before, however, year-over-year shows a larger increase.
According to Statistics Canada there were 1,160 people receiving employment insurance in January in the Belleville-Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area (CMA), up just 10 from December.
On a year-to-year basis there was a 13.7 per cent increase from January of 2024 when 1,020 people were benefitting from the program.
The Belleville-Quinte West CMA consists of Belleville, Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon, and Tyendinaga/Deseronto.
