It is the worst kept secret in Canada, that a federal election is coming down the pipeline.
The expectation is that over the next few weeks Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit with Governor General Mary Simon to request a dissolution of Parliament and request an election.
Parties of all stripes are scrambling to find candidates.
This is especially difficult, as many of the board members, volunteers, donors, and supporters of each party are just coming off a busy provincial election period. Many do double duty for Canadian and Ontario elections.
Quinte News contacted the Bay of Quinte Liberal Electoral District Association Board President Ken Manderville to get an understanding of where they sit.
Manderville tells Quinte News, “The Bay of Quinte Federal Liberal Association has five strong nominees for the candidacy in the riding. The reality is that the time frame between when the election may be called and the possibility of a contested nomination process is going to be too short. Our expectation is the central Liberal Party will consult with myself and the EDA for Bay of Quinte, with respect to the candidates and who it is we will be recommending as the preferred candidate. The central party and Prime Minister Carney have the right to designate a candidate and that’s what we expect will happen.”
