After more than two years, Belleville police have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a one-month-old infant.
In December 2022, the Criminal Investigations Division began a lengthy investigation into the allegations of a sexual assault on a one-month-old infant by the grandfather.
Following the conclusion of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for a 61-year-old man from Mississauga on charges of sexual assault on a person under 16, assault sexual interference and bestiality.
The accused fled the country prior to his arrest.
On Sunday, security at the Montreal Airport contacted the Belleville Police Service advising that the accused had been arrested while reentering the country.
The accused was transported back to Belleville where he was held for a bail hearing.
Police will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim and family.
