In response to the ongoing trade war with the United States, Prince Edward County is funding a “Buy Local” campaign.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, council voted to enter into an agreement with the Prince Edward County Chamber of Commerce to provide them with funding, in order for them to run the campaign, among several other initiatives.
The campaign is to include a marketing push, designed to both encourage residents to pick products made in the county, while also making it easier to identify locally made items.
The funding agreement is for $50,000, with $15,000 budgeted for the “Buy Local” campaign. The funds are to be drawn from the Tax Rate Stabilization reserve fund.
The funding agreement also covers $15,000 to promote transportation services around the county, with the rest of the funds divided between improving accessibility at county businesses, piloting a trade show, and hosting workshops related to municipal services.
