Police have made an arrest in Peterborough following an almost year long investigation
The investigation began in May 2024 after the OPP received information from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in New Brunswick.
On Tuesday, OPP officers executed a search warrant at a property in the City of Peterborough with assistance from the OPP Explosives Disposal Unit and the 8th Wing Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit from the Canadian Forces Base Trenton.
As a result of the investigation, 83 year old John Butcher from Peterborough, was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.
- Making or possessing explosives for an unlawful purpose.
The accused was taken into custody, and is expected to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on March 13th.
