Heritage Belleville recognized three winners during their annual Heritage Revitalization Awards Thursday.
Cairns Homes was awarded a 2025 Outstanding Achievement in Heritage Revitalization Award in the area of Outstanding Revitalization for their renovations at 256 Coleman St.
The work maintained the historic design of the building’s exterior while ensuring 2024 Ontario Building Code compliance and adding dwelling units to the downtown core.
Taskforce Engineering was awarded a 2025 Outstanding Achievement in Heritage Revitalization Award in the area of Landmark Revitalization for The Memorial Market Place.
The project preserved the integrity of the Memorial Arena – a cultural landmark in Belleville – while creating an economic, cultural and social hub for the downtown core and community as a whole.
Richard Hughes was awarded a 2025 Outstanding Achievement in Heritage Revitalization Award in the area of Preservation of Historical Significance for his many contributions to Belleville’s heritage over the years, including his involvement with the Hastings County Historical Society, creation of the Community Archives of Belleville and Hastings County, preservation and movement of the United Empire Loyalist monument on Dundas Street, and much more.
Heritage Committee Chair Karen Fisk says the Heritage Revitalization Awards have been handed out by the city’s Heritage Committee since 2016.

“It’s the bricks and mortar that tell our stories so that we remember who we are, where we come from and where we need to go. And we have very extremely beautiful buildings within our city. We’re very fortunate that many of them have been kept and well-preserved.”
The awards were handed out at an event at the Upfront Café.
