Cobourg Police Service Enhanced Presence Continues
In response to community feedback raised during a town hall meeting, the Cobourg Police Service (CPS) increased targeted patrols in downtown Cobourg in November 2024.
From January 27 to February 9, 2025, uniform officers, special constables, and auxiliary members completed 42 additional downtown foot patrols during key hours in the morning and evening. In addition, officers completed 155 proactive property checks.
These patrols focused on proactively addressing community safety concerns and crime. Enhanced downtown patrols will continue, as resources permit.
Background:
Residents have expressed a strong desire for a more noticeable police presence in the early morning and evening hours to enhance safety and security in the vibrant downtown core. In November 2024, CPS members, including sworn officers, special constables, and auxiliary members, increased targeted patrols downtown.
These efforts were part of a broader strategy to increase engagement between police and the public, addressing community concerns and crime proactively, to maintain safe neighbourhoods for all.
Warrant Apprehension and Bail Compliance
Warrant apprehension and bail compliance continue to be a priority for the CPS in 2025.
Between January 13 and January 31, 2025, 12 arrests were made for outstanding warrants and other bail and release order violations.
Five individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants held by police services in other jurisdictions. Three were returned to the jurisdiction of the warrant.
The Warrant Apprehension and Bail Compliance project is part of a broader strategy for ongoing and integrated bail compliance efforts to ensure adherence to conditions and to reduce the risk of reoffending while improving community safety and support victims of crime.
The community is a key partner in ensuring public safety. We encourage community members to report bail or release violations, suspicious activity, and crime to police.
