Stephen Halliday scored twice and Leevi Merilainen stopped 24 shots as the Belleville Senators grounded the AHL North Division leading Laval Rocket 5-0.
That put an end to Laval’s seven-game winning streak.
The game was played at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa where Merilainen was more than comfortable having just returned from a lengthy stint with the Ottawa Senators.
Donovan Sebrango (5th) , Max Guenette (5th) and Jamieson Reese (3rd) also scored for Belleville as they began a stretch of eight games over the next two weeks including four in six days.
The B-Sens are home to the Toronto Marlies Friday night then return the visit the Coca Cola Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
As has become tradition, Belleville will be home on Monday February 17 for a Family Day matinee with the Utica Comets.
