While Brighton doesn’t have a large number of people who are homeless, Brighton council plans to try and make life better for the people in the community who are.
Monday, council voted to organize a Homelessness Task Force made up of council members, municipal staff, government agencies, non-profit and faith-based organizations.
Mayor Brian Ostrander tells Quinte News that while most of Brighton’s homeless manage to find places to stay overnight, a small group are outside all the time, sleeping in parks or in the downtown.

“We want to make sure we’re providing appropriate spaces for folks who find themselves living rough and for whatever reason aren’t willing to take up those county services that are available.”
Terms of reference for the Homelessness Task Force are to be discussed at the February 18 council meeting.
