Northumberland County Council wants to know if its seven member municipalities want to consider restructuring leading up to its 2025 budget discussions.
Monday, Brighton council voted to support the idea of a discussion on the sharing of services between the county and the municipalities in an effort to save money.
Mayor of Brighton and warden of Northumberland County Brian Ostrander says the talks will also include possible amalgamations including the elimination of municipalities by uploading all responsibilities to the county level or eliminating the county itself.
However, he doesn’t see that happening.

“At the end of the day I think what we’ll find is there’s opportunity for better sharing of services up and downstream.”
The municipal councils have until March 3 to respond to whether they want to start discussions on restructuring.
