A tractor-trailer travelling east on Highway 401 struck another tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder which resulted in the highway being blocked for several hours.
Just before 6 a.m. on January 31, 2025, members of the Frontenac OPP were called for a vehicle collision involving a tractor-trailer that had struck another tractor-trailer, causing the vehicle to catch on fire and block the highway. The collision occurred west of the Gardiners Road off-ramp.
Frontenac OPP, assisted by Lennox and Addington OPP, Kingston Fire Rescue, and the Frontenac Paramedic Service attended to contain the fire and redirect traffic. Minor injuries were reported for the drivers of both involved vehicles. The tractor-trailer unit was transporting a load of food when it struck the other vehicle carrying electronics. The highway was closed for approximately six hours for removal of the wreckage.
A 31-year-old male from Palgrave was charged with careless operation of a motor vehicle.
