Kingston police are continuing to navigate the cyber incident which has affected some of their IT systems and their non-emergency functions.
Most recently, they have begun restoring programs and systems. The process continues to be gradual and intentional in restoring services to their full capacity, on a priority basis determined by leadership. Full security measures are operable before the systems go live.
Kingston police have provided the Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) with a preliminary report regarding the incident. There is required reporting after each incident to protect privacy and the IPC will review the measures undertaken by the affected organization for adequacy. The organization continues to work closely with the city, the Police Services Board, and members to return to normal operations.
The report provided to the IPC is the first report in a likely series of reports Kingston police will provide to show the steps taken during the incident response. Their third-party cyber security experts are also in the process of preparing a report with recommendations for improvement beyond this incident.
Although this report is not available to the public for viewing, Kingston police ensure community members that they are committed to transparency and accountability. Internal investigations remain active.
