Forty-four-year-old Andy Lloyd described his sister as witty, very social, and someone who was easy to get along with.
Twenty-seven-year-old Jessica Lloyd was well known across the Quinte region, with friends and acquaintances in many circles.
It was January 29, 2010 that Jessica went missing from her Highway 37 home. She did not show up to work and her family became worried.
A search party, which included family, friends, and first responders began combing the region for her.
Lloyd tells Quinte News they had posters and search parties for over a week.
Audio Player“Definitely as the days went on, they were looking for tire tracks. Seems like something out of a CSI episode. It just doesn’t seem like that’s the reality in a small community, the house that I grew up in.”
He says they were watching the Superbowl just over a week later when they got the news her body was discovered in a wooded area near Tweed.
(Then) 46-year-old Russell Williams, the Wing Commander of Canadian Forces Base Trenton, led police to Jessica Lloyd’s final resting place.
Williams would be charged and convicted in Lloyd’s death and the death of Corporal Marie France Comeau. He was also linked to several assault and break-and-enter investigations in the Quinte region.
The anniversary of Lloyd’s disappearance is not about Williams or his crimes, it is to remember the vibrant and loving Jessica Lloyd and for that fact, all of his victims.
Andy Lloyd says it is a day to smile and remember who she was, but it is still difficult.
Audio Player“I took the day off of work. My mom’s retired, so that’s good, she’s got the day off as well. Today’s just kind of a different anniversary I guess. It never gets easier.”

Lloyd says one of the things he also reflects on is how incredible many in the community were to him and his family.
Audio Player“From the first night, we had I don’t know how many cars and trucks driving around, putting signs on Tim Hortons windows. Everybody I mean was on board. Even now I’ll be at a grocery store and I’ll hold the door open for someone and they’ll say, ‘Thanks Andy’ and I will have no idea who they are.”
Jessica Lloyd would have turned 43 this year.
