An Ottawa man is facing charges related to the kidnapping of a man from Bancroft last year.
In September of 2024, a man was kidnapped in Bancroft and taken to Ottawa, where he was forced to make large cash withdrawals at several banks, before being taken back to Bancroft unharmed.
After an investigation by Bancroft OPP, an arrest warrant was issued for an Ottawa resident. On Tuesday, that Ottawa resident was arrested during a traffic stop by OPP officers.
Twenty-two-year old Bienvenu Molemangabo faces charges of:
- Robbery using firearm
- Extortion while using firearm
- Kidnapping while using firearm
- Forcible confinement
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
- Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
The suspect was held in custody after a bail hearing. Police believe this was a targeted incident and say there is no danger to the public.
