Loyalist College is facing a major financial hurdle, which has lead to may program cuts and layoffs.
On Wednesday afternoon, President Mark Kirkpatrick announced an indefinite intake suspension for 30-percent of programs, starting this fall.
An email was sent to staff indicating chronic underfunding by the province, along with the federal cap on international students is leading to a projected $40-million reduction in international student revenue, along with a $8-million decrease in 2026-27.
As far as staffing, a 20-percent reduction is projected.
A voluntary exit program is being offered, along with reduction through attrition and planned retirements, but some terminations and layoffs will also take place.

The decision regarding which programs to cut was made through consideration of a number of factors including enrolment trends, alignment with the Post Graduate Work Permit and Strategic Mandate Agreement priorities along with program delivery costs.
