UPDATE: As of 3 p.m., the highway has reopened.
The 401 westbound remains closed today following a pair of collisions, one that injured a police officer.
Emergency crews initially responded to a collision at Palace Road in Napanee this morning.
Lennox & Addington County OPP say an officer who was responding to that collision on Hwy 401 was struck by a passing vehicle.
Police say it happened before 7:00 a.m. on the westbound lanes near Newburgh Road.
The officer suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Support services have been engaged by OPP for the officer’s family and detachment members.
The westbound lanes remain closed to allow OPP Collision Reconstructionists and Technical Collision Investigation team members to look into the cause of the initial and subsequent collisions.
Drivers are asked to follow the marked Emergency Detour Route.
