A Belleville city councillor says the city should be looking at adding more EV charging stations in the community.
At a council meeting on Monday, Councillor Margaret Seu asked city staff to create a report looking at potential EV charging infrastructure at areas like the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre as well as City Hall and the library.
Seu says bringing more charging stations was one of the platforms she campaigned on in the 2022 municipal election, citing conversations she had with residents about the lack of them in Belleville.
Seu says the city needs to be at the forefront of bringing in EV chargers so that the city can attract more visitors.
“EV charging stations give commuters a reason to come to the city or stay in the city during the charging cycle. This is a great opportunity to expose the great assets of Belleville to new potential customers,” Seu told councillors.
Mayor Neil Ellis said staff would create a report looking into the infrastructure for potential EV chargers at the locations listed by Councillor Seu.
