The man who led the very first council for the City of Quinte West passed away Tuesday.
Jack Arthur died at home in Sidney Ward surrounded by family in his 85th year.
Arthur began the difficult and often contentious process of bringing the four separate
communities of Trenton, Sidney and Murray townships and the Village of Frankford together
as one in 1998.
He had previously served as councillor and reeve for Sidney Township and was a quiet but resolute
gentleman with a sharp wit.
Arthur was employed by IBM and installed the first mainframe computers at Loyalist College, as well
as Belleville’s first bank machine.
In his spare time he served as chair of Pathways to Independence, was the national president of United Church Men’s Clubs, the first president of the Quinte Sunrise Rotary Club, and deputy-chair
of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation.
The Arthur family would appreciate donations being made to the Foundation.
He leaves behind his wife Linda and two sons.
City of Quinte West flags are flying at half-mast in recognition of Jack Arthur’s contributions to the community.
Funeral details are not yet available.
