Solacom Guardian has been selected to be the Next Generation 911 call handling solution for the Belleville Police Service.
In a report to the Belleville Police Services Board, Belleville Police Chief Murray Rodd says that the company has been successful in winning bids across several mid to large police services across Canada.
Installation and testing of the equipment is set to begin this month.
Next Generation 911 (NG-911) is new technology that not only allows calls but allows texts, images, video and data to the 911 centre.
These will be introduced in phases with the first phase allowing for text messages.
Ontario has provided $418,166.39 plus additional funding for fiber connectivity, furniture, professional services and other IT systems to support the transition.
Belleville Police Services will be bringing online a full redundant secondary dispatch site in the event of a significant failure at police headquarters.
The new NG-911 requirements set out by the CRTC mean that the system should be implemented no later than March 4, 2025.
