A public meeting has been held in Prince Edward County, regarding a re-zoning request for a new campsite location proposed at 565 Wesley Acres Road in Bloomfield/Hallowell Ward.
The proposed development, Campfire Circle, was discussed during Wednesday’s Planning and Development Committee meeting.
The camp is planned to work as a charity, providing overnight camp programs to children battling cancer and other serious illnesses at no cost to families. The camp is designed to provide medical support to the children on site, allowing the children to experience the programs while undergoing treatment.
The proposed site would support 387 campers and 144 staff. The site would include a central lodge, accommodations, activity and medical buildings, and multipurpose buildings. The camp is planned to operate year round with seasonal programs.
Some members of the public also spoke on the proposed development. A common concern was placing the camp in an environmentally protected area, and the amount of development that would be required to support the large number of campers and medical staff.
Council and staff took information from the public comments, and the application will be sent before council alongside a staff report on the zoning request at a later date.
