Investigation into an abandoned vehicle resulted in the arrest of a prohibited driver in Northumberland County.
Late Friday morning, OPP responded to a report of a white van in the ditch at a driveway on 9th Line West.
Police learned the vehicle was registered to a prohibited driver from Hastings.
While on route to the owner’s residence, the officer was alerted by the in-car Automated Licence Plate Recognition to a suspended driver in a grey passenger vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
Upon further investigation the grey vehicle was registered to the same owner as the abandoned van.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and confirmed the driver to be the same owner of the white van in the ditch.
Kenneth MacKay, age 63, from Hastings was arrested and charged with two counts of operation while prohibited.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in February.
Both of the accused’s vehicles were towed and impounded for 45 days.
