The following was submitted by Northumberland OPP
On Monday January 20, 2025, at approximately 12:15 a.m., members from the Northumberland OPP responded to a single vehicle collision on Dale Road east of County Road 45.
A grey pickup truck was travelling west when it left the roadway and went into the south ditch where it hit a tree causing minor injuries to the driver. While officers were investigating the collision, a second vehicle arrived on scene where the driver claimed to know the driver of the pickup truck that was involved in the collision. Upon speaking with the operator of the second vehicle, police suspected the driver had been consuming alcohol. The officer administered a roadside screening device test and the operator registered a fail. The individual was taken into custody and taken to a nearby police station where further testing was conducted which resulted in the driver registering over three times the legal limit.
As a result Emily Johnston (age 35) from Hamilton Township has been charged with:
- Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in March, 2025. In addition to the future court date for the accused, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.
The OPP remind the public not to drive when planning to consume alcohol or drugs.
