The Town of Greater Napanee will be meeting with the Solicitor General’s office at the upcoming Rural Ontario Municipal Conference (ROMA) in Toronto starting Sunday.
CAO Matthew Grant spoke to council this week in regards to the cost on taxpayers to field OPP calls to the Quinte Detention Centre.
“We are averaging about 200 calls to the Quinte Detention Centre per year. They (Napanee OPP) did give us a breakdown for the most expensive calls. Violent crimes, largely assaults, they would be about $1,700 per call.”
He says calls for other issues would vary. Grant added that serving QDC is not cheap on the bottom line.
“A safe bet would be approximately $100,000 a year. That number is expected likely to increase with the 23 per cent increase of the Quinte Detention Centre.”

“We will also raise the issue of municipalities being required to pay for one provincial service to provide service for another provincial service.”
