Northumberland OPP have released more information about two collisions, one of them fatal, that occurred during some heavy snowfall on Thursday.
The most serious of the two happened around 11:30 a.m. on Highway 401 west in the Burnham Street area.
As many as 15 vehicles were involved in the incident, including two tractor- trailers.
Five people were transported to hospital for medical treatment.
A 70-year-old male from Colborne, was pronounced deceased while the other four sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The highway was closed until about 2:45 a.m. Friday for investigation and cleanup.
There was also a collision around 9:40 a.m. Thursday on County Road 28 in Port Hope. OPP arrived at the scene where two passenger vehicles had sustained heavy damage and a third vehicle was in the ditch on the west side.
Three occupants were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, a family pet did not survive the incident.
County Road 28 was closed at County Road 9 and Boundary Road until about midday.
Both investigations remain ongoing.
