On January 14, 2025, the accused in this incident, Ryan Tonello, was rearrested by members of the Kingston Police Criminal Investigations Division on the charge of attempted murder, assault with a weapon and wear a disguise.
Tonello attended a bail hearing in relation to the new charge and remains in custody.

Kingston police investigate assault with a weapon at a local shelter.
On January 6, 2025, at approximately 8:50 a.m., members of the Kingston Police Patrol Division responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at a local shelter located on Cowdy Street.
The victim was treated at scene for non-life-threatening injuries caused by an assault with a knife.
As a result of a subsequent investigation, a warrant was issued for the arrest of 42-year-old Ryan Tonello of Orillia for assault with a weapon and possession of weapons dangerous.
