The times are desperate and that means more people are using groups, charities, and non-profit organizations to get them through.
That includes the United Way Hastings-Prince Edward.
Monday morning, United Way HPE, which supports 46 community agencies, announced they are projecting a $100,000 shortfall for the 2025 fundraising campaign.
Brandi Hodge is the Executive Director for the United Way HPE.
“The need is higher than we’ve ever seen it in our community and really that’s true across the province and the country. It’s hard right now and more people are turning to the organizations that are funded by United Way for supports.”
Hodge says they are looking to get 100 groups or individuals to donate $1,000 each to help HPE reach the goal.
“We launched a $2.25 million campaign this year. We knew that was a stretch. It’s hard for businesses, it’s hard for individuals and families right now and that’s true for fundraising.”

United Way Hastings & Prince Edward is issuing an urgent call to action: for the community to come together to close an unexpected $100,000 funding gap to reach its $2.25 million campaign goal by January 31, 2025. This $100,000 represents unprojected funds—money that is not currently accounted for in campaign planning. Without these crucial funds, fewer resources will be available to support local programs at a time when demand is at an all-time high.
United Way is calling on 100 Champions to each contribute $1,000—or whatever amount they can—to bridge this critical gap. Every dollar donated will help ensure vital programs addressing homelessness, addiction, food insecurity, and more can continue making a difference in the lives of local residents.
“This is a defining moment for our community,” said Taylor Russett, 2024 Campaign Chair. “The funds raised through The Final Countdown are the missing piece we need to reach our goal. This is not just about hitting a target; it’s about making sure the programs people rely on have the resources to keep going.”
Making It Fun While Making a Difference
To energize the community, United Way is launching fun and interactive ways to engage. Donors will have the opportunity to take photos with the special Final Countdown photo frame, with pictures shared on social media to inspire others to join the challenge.
In addition, progress will be tracked on the United Way HPE website and social media platforms, allowing the community to follow along in real time as the campaign thermometer rises. Milestones, donor shout-outs, and success stories will keep the excitement going right up to the final deadline.
“This is an all-hands-on-deck moment,” said Brandi Hodge, Executive Director of United Way Hastings & Prince Edward. “The need in our community is urgent, and this funding gap means programs will not have the funding they need to deliver their services. We’re asking everyone to help us finish strong. Together, we can make it happen.”
