A Royal Canadian Air Force Globemaster from 429 Transport Squadron at 8 Wing Trenton, will conduct a flypast over the funeral service for Second World War veteran, Warrant Officer (Retired) Rodney “Shorty” Moyes.
The flypast will take place over Beechwood National Cemetery in Vanier, Ont. on January 14, at approximately 2 p.m.
The aircraft will fly over the cemetery at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle on their route.
Moyes joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 and was trained as an air gunner before deploying to the United Kingdom in 1944. He and his crew flew in 15 missions with 429 Squadron, before transferring to 405 Squadron, where they completed another 15 missions. Moyes served as a tail gunner on the Halifax and Lancaster bombers.
Flypasts by Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft are carefully planned and closely controlled for public safety, and are dependent upon weather and flying conditions.
