The Northumberland OPP have officially concluded their annual Festive RIDE program for 2024.
The campaign began on November 21, and ran until January 1, in a collaborative effort with police services across Ontario to keep impaired drivers off the roads during the holiday season. During the campaign, officers were highly visible as they conducted RIDE initiatives 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
During the campaign, officers conducted 192 RIDE programs, and charged 14 drivers with blood alcohol over .80 or refusal. Out of those charged, two were due to investigations after motor vehicle accidents.
Northumberland OPP are thanking the public for reporting suspected impaired drivers, and remind people not to drive when planning to consume alcohol or drugs. Alternatives to driving include taxs, rideshares, public transit or staying the night.
