Northumberland OPP are investigating a collision which resulted in the closure of the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Port Hope Thursday.
On January 9, shortly before 10:50 a.m., Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the Municipality of Port Hope Fire Department and OPP responded to a report of a passenger vehicle leaving the roadway and rolling into a wooded area on the north side.
The lone occupant is believed to have sustained serious injuries and Air Ornge was dispatched to the location to provided medical assistance.
Diversions were in place as Highway 401 west was closed at Toronto Road.
The air ambulance landed west of the scene and the female driver of the passenger vehicle was airlifted to a Toronto area hospital for further treatment.
The highway reopened around midday and the investigation is ongoing. No further information can be provided at this time.
