Breakaway Fuels U11 AAA Quinte Red Devils Start 2025 With a Win
Saturday saw the U11 Breakaway Fuels Red Devils start the New Year off with a home game against the Whitby Wildcats.
When the game started the Devils apparently were still on holidays and allowed the Wildcats to jump out to a 2-0 lead by the end of the first. After a quick intermission chat and group reset the boys came out flying in the second to take a 4-3 lead into the third. The final frame saw some great goaltending and end to end action before the Devils would add an insurance marker late to take the 5-3 win.
Scoring on Saturday was provided by Kai Mackie, Kolton Solmes, Greyson Rennie, Ethan Dowling and Jackson Simpson. Assists went to Silas Templar(2), Reid Haley, Jayden Stehlik, Tripp Plumley, and Mackie. Jordan Andrews grabbed the win in net and Silas Templar took home player of the game honours for a solid game at both ends of the ice.
On Deck: the U11’s head to Ajax next Sunday to take on the Raiders.

The Environmental 360 Solutions U16 AAA Quinte Red Devils opened 2025 losing to the North Shore Whitecaps in Bowmanville Sunday after going 2-and-2 at the 30th annual Toronto Marlboros Holiday Classic on the final weekend of 2024.
The Devils regular season record dipped to 12-6-2-and-1 with the loss to North Shore and allowed the Peterborough Petes to climb into a third-place tie with Quinte, both sitting at 27 points. Ajax Pickering Raiders and York-Simcoe Express are even with 33 points in second place, one point behind the Barrie Colts. Ty Leavitt scored for the Devils in the first period against the Whitecaps and Nate Rashotte scored one in the third, but a big three-goal second period by North Shore gave them a 4-1 lead and put it out of reach. Mac Chisholm, Ryan Foley and Henry Fisher had assists for Quinte.
The previous weekend the GTHL’s Don Mills Flyers won the Marlies Holiday Classic with a perfect 8-and-0 record while the Red Devils split four round-robin games at the four-day tournament that took place from December 27-30 at various rinks around west-end Toronto. This year’s event hosted 101 teams playing in four different age groups, with 49 of them participating in the U16 group. The Red Devils went 2-and-2 through round-robin, finishing third in their five-team division behind Don Mills and the Eastern Ontario Wild, two-points shy of playoff contention. On Friday Quinte doubled up on the Brantford 99ers 4-2, then they were shutout 2-0 by Eastern Ontario before opening Saturday with an impressive 6-0 demolition of the Burlington Eagles. Later that afternoon Don Mills ended Quinte’s hopes of advancing to the playoff round with a sound 7-1 beating of the Devils. Quinte’s lone goal against the eventual-champion Flyers was the only goal Don Mills gave up in their four round-robin games.
On Friday, powerplay goals in the first period by Nate Rashotte and Chase Cybulskie gave the Red Devils a 2-0 lead in their opening game against Branford before second-period tallies from Peirson Clute and Isaac Tracze lifted them to the 4-2 win. Counting assists for the Devils were Ryan Foley, Henry Fisher, Ryan Sherwin, Blake Munnings, Mac Chisholm, Rashotte and Cybulskie. A few hours later Quinte fell 2-0 to Eastern Ontario but they rebounded Saturday morning with the 6-0 trouncing of Burlington. The Devils held period leads of 2-0 and 5-0 with Munnings netting the winner just 1:35 into the game. Foley (2), Tracze, Chisholm and Rashotte had the winner’s other goals. Munnings, Foley, Chisholm and Rashotte also picked up an assist apiece while Leavitt assisted twice. Coughlin, Gawley, Whalen and Rowat had a helper each. In the 7-1 loss to Don Mills, the Devils trailed 4-0 following the first period and 6-0 after the second before Chisholm got Quinte on the board with their only goal coming in the final period.
When he stonewalled Burlington, Quinte’s Ayden Mullen registered one of an astonishing 41 shutouts recorded in the U16 group. Don Mills had five shutouts and finished up the tourney with a 3-0 victory over the Toronto Jr. Canadians in Monday’s championship game.
On Deck…The Red Devils are in Kingston this Thursday (Jan. 9) for an 8:30 date with the last-place Gaels at the Invista Centre to complete a 7-game regular-season road stretch. The Devils finally return to Belleville ice on Saturday at 5:30 on the CAA pad against York-Simcoe. The following Tuesday the 2-and-17 Gaels face Quinte at the CAA at 8:15.
The Gillespie’s Tree Service U15 AAA Quinte Red Devils travelled to the GTA to participate in the Toronto Marlboros Holiday Classic tournament after some much needed holiday time off. Their first game action on Friday saw them take on the provincially top rated Markham Majors. Markham handled the challenge the team presented with the lone offensive tally coming on the power play of the stick of Andrew Laurin after a couple of ice passes from Trent Clow and Lawson Minifie. The squad looked to rebound on Saturday morning against the Kitchener Jr Rangers. Lauchlan Whelan got the scoring started early in the first frame after a nice breakout sequence by Brechen Aird and Andrew Laurin. Kitchener responded twice to take a 2-1 lead into the break. The second period saw no scoring by either team and the third was all Quinte. Austin Preston tied the game up after a great series of passing by John Korver and Coen Lowry. Laurin put QRD ahead for good after Preston turned over a puck deep in Kitchener territory and hit him in the slot. Korver sealed the game on a great tip off an Aird blast from the point. Lowry picked up an assist on the play as well. The 4-2 win evened the teams record heading into the afternoon tilt with the Woodbridge Wolfpack, a top 25 team in the US from New Jersey. The Wolfpack jumped out to a 1-0 lead late in the first period and that is the way this back and forth contest would stay through the second period as well. Lauchlan Whelan converted a turnover late in the third to tie the game up before a fortunate bounce for Woodbridge would give them a 2-1 victory and set up a must win game on Sunday morning where QRD and the Grey-Bruce Highlanders entered the game with 1-2 records and the winner would move on to the round of 16 playoffs. The squad came out firing on all cylinders never letting the Highlanders get in the game. Ewan Dahle and Andrew Laurin had a goal each for QRD to take a 2-0 lead after the first. Assists going to Noah Kennedy and Brechen Aird on Laurin’s goal. The score would stay that way through the 2nd as well before the floodgates opened in the 3rd with QRD pouring in 3 goals off the sticks of Cohen Stewart, Laurin again and John Korver. Coen Lowry picked up an assist on Stewart’s goal, Spencer Harold and Trent Clow added helpers on Laurin’s 2nd and Lowry again on Korver’s goal. The 5-0 win set up a date with the Minuteman Flames in the round of 16. Based out of Marlborough, Mass the 5th ranked team in the US was full value in a back and forth affair. After falling in a 2-0 hole, Austin Preston answered for QRD halfway through the 2nd period with an assist from John Korver. The Flames would answer back before Lawson Minifie tipped a Brechen Aird to make it 3-2. Andrew Dewar also picked up a helper on the play. The Flames would net one more against a very short handed squad before it was all over to end the tournament for the U15 gang. Nate Ferriss and Rory Young were outstanding in net all 5 games.
The squad enjoyed another short break and travelled to Milton this weekend to participate in the OMHA Showcase with a pair of games against teams from the Western side of the bracket. Friday morning saw a contest against the 2nd ranked Southern Tier Admirals. After digging themselves an early 2-0 hole, the team managed to shake some of the rust off with John Korver tipping in a Noah Kennedy point shot to head to the 1st intermission down 2-1. The teams would play the rest of the game even and QRD would drop this exhibition contest. An early Saturday morning tilt with the Sudbury Wolves would finish off the weekend. Sudbury jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first before some penalty trouble for QRD helped Sudbury’s cause in the 2nd. The lone offensive bright spot came on an Austin Preston power play marker off a nice feed from Andrew Dewar as Sudbury would head into the flood up 5-1. The third period would tell a much different story however. After conceding another power play goal to Sudbury to drop further into a 6-1 hole, the Quinte offence exploded. Spencer Harold got the ball rolling with a blast from the point after a great faceoff feed from Austin Preston. Lauchlan Whelan was next to the party with an excellent solo effort starting in his own end. Andrew Laurin chimed in next with a faceoff win assist going to Trent Clow. Sudbury would sneak another goal in to restore a three goal lead before our squad got back to offence. Clow would chip in a marker of his own with assists going to Whelan and Laurin and Laurin would add a short handed tally for his second of the game after forcing a Sudbury turnover. Unfortunately that was a close as the team would get and the comeback bid came up just short with the team dropping a 7-6 decision.
On Deck: The squad looks to hit the reset button this week and get the second half of the season started on the right foot with a home contest Saturday against Peterborough. Puck drop is 3:45 on the Mackay pad. Sunday sees a road trip to Markham to take on the Waxers. Puck drop is at 4pm in the Markham Village Arena. LiveBarn will provide a stream of that contest as well.
