A French high school in Trenton has once again topped the list of of local secondary schools in the latest Fraser Institute Ontario Secondary School rankings.
The annual Report Card gives École secondaire publique Marc Garneau a 7.5 out of 10, ranking it 141 out of 746 schools.
In its last report, Marc Garneau received a 7.8 score putting it 87th among 689 schools.
The Fraser Institute ranks the public, Catholic, and independent schools based on eight academic indicators derived from province-wide test results.
“Our report cards offer parents information they can’t easily get anywhere else about how their child’s school performs and how it compares to other schools in Ontario,” said Peter Cowley, a Fraser Institute senior fellow.
Trenton High School was the lowest ranked school locally at 2.8 (709/746) athough that is an improvement over last year’s 2.4 score.
The think tank states that, contrary to common misconceptions, the data suggests every school is capable of improvement regardless of type, location, and student characteristics.

The average score among the 12 schools is 5.25.
