The Belleville Senators dismantled the Utica Comets 7-2 on Saturday.
Hayden Hodgson, Jan Jenik, Angus Crookshank, and Maxence Guenette all scored for the Sens, alongside a hat trick by Wyatt Bongiovanni.
The Senators took off to an early lead with two unanswered first period goals. The Sens kept up their momentum with four more goals in the second frame before the Comets snuck in their first of the night with 10 seconds left on the clock. Both the Sens and the Comets came back for a final goal in the third, but it wasn’t enough for the Comets to catch up, with the Senators taking the win.
Belleville Sens forward Wyatt Bongiovanni scored a goal in all three periods, earning his first AHL hat trick.
“Getting one early is key to feel good,” said Bongiovanni. “You see a puck go in the net, as a line, as a power play group, it’s easy to build momentum and get that ball rolling. So for me, I feel like lately I’ve been passing up some shots, and today I saw some fall.”
The Senators are back in action on Friday hosting the Scranton Penguins.
