The following was provided by Habitat for Humanity
- President Carter worked with over 100,000 volunteers in 14 countries to build, renovate or repair 4,390 homes. He understood that we need all hands on deck, working together if we are to solve society’s toughest challenges.
34th Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Edmonton & Winnipeg (2017)
- In 2017, to mark our country’s 150th anniversary, Habitat for Humanity Edmonton and Habitat for Humanity Manitoba hosted President and Mrs. Carter at the 34th Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.
- During one week in July local Habitat organizations across Canada and thousands of volunteers participated in the project, building 150 homes, hosting community events and celebrating home dedication ceremonies.
- Hosts sites Habitat Edmonton and Habitat Manitoba mobilized volunteers to build 75 homes in Edmonton and 25 homes in Winnipeg alongside future Habitat homeowners.
Today, Canadians and people all over the world are deeply concerned about the lack of safe and affordable housing. We hope that President Carter’s legacy will inspire people to see how they can help, so that everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
Habitat for Humanity CEO, Hazzem Koudsi expressed how “the process of building a home has benefits beyond the shelter it provides. Anyone who takes part in a build, whether by volunteering or donating, quickly realizes that the experience affects all involved just as much as partner families, creating the sort of lasting emotional impact needed to make a real difference in society.”
