“What we’ve had to do is we’ve had to reduce the tonnage on those bridges to three tons which means a firetruck can’t cross that bridge, an ambulance can’t cross that bridge, a school bus can’t, and large farming equipment can’t cross those bridges so these people living in those areas are vulnerable.”
DeGenova says the municipality simply needs more revenue to meet its responsibilities and still has the lowest tax rates of any municipality in Hastings County.
He tells Quinte News better days are ahead.
“But we’re making sure that by the end of our term a lot of all of this is going to be addressed and we’ll be on a much better footing than when we started this process.”
Tweed council will be looking for a new Chief Administrative Officer in the new year.
DeGenova says Gloria Raybone, whom he described as a “huge asset to our municipality,” is retiring effective January 3.
The mayor says they’ve been lucky to have been able to retain the services of retired Frontenac County CAO Kelly Pender on an interim basis but they need to find a full-time person soon.
“This is going to be a huge challenge for us. And that is simply because there are so few CAOs trained for municipal work out there.”
Pender is a Belleville native.
