One barn was destroyed but another was saved after a fire in the north end of Belleville’s Thurlow Ward Sunday night.
Volunteer and full-time firefighters responded to Kelly Road after reports a horse barn was engulfed in flames around 7:30 p.m.
Another barn nearby had just started to catch fire when crews arrived but it was saved.
Fortunately all the horses were able to escape but the property owner suffered a hand burn.
Quinte West and Tyendinaga firefighters were called in for tanker support as water was relayed to a Belleville Station 2 ladder truck, which blasted water down onto the burning rubble.
A cause is under investigation.
