Reflecting on the year that was in 2024, Hastings Lennox and Addington MP Shelby Kramp-Neuman says it has been a tough year for many of her constituents thanks to the rising cost of living and an uncertain political landscape.
But she says there have been some big wins for her local constituency offices providing help to residents.
“There’s so many issues that people have had with immigration or Revenue Canada and the results that we have been able to get from our local offices whether they be in Napanee or Ivanhoe or Flinton or Maynooth are really rewarding and that’s what I tend to focus on as some of the highs and takeaways from this past year.”
Kramp-Neuman says she was honoured this year to be asked to chair the Standing Committee on the Status of Women in Ottawa.
She says domestic violence is a serious issue that needs more attention.
“And there’s a lot of important studies, extremely important studies with one of the big focuses being on gender-based violence and inter-partner violence. You and I both recognize the statistics are appalling and have really only increased sharply.”
She says bail reform is a major issue that her party continues to focus on to give police, prosecutors and judges the necessary tools to do their jobs.
Kramp-Neuman adds the country is ready for change having lost faith in the Liberal government and her Conservative Party will be ready whether an election comes earlier or later in 2025.
