Prince Edward County has granted a civic recognition certificate posthumously to a local farmer for his contributions to the surrounding community.
Clifford Foster was granted the award, presented to his family, during Tuesday’s council meeting. Foster was recognized for his work at Fosterholm Farms and his efforts to promote agricultural education.
During the award presentation, Mayor Steve Ferguson said that Foster helped mentor many young farmers in the area.
“Clifford was one of those rare characters you meet in life who gives you so much more than you ask for or expect or feel you deserve,” said Mayor Ferguson. “He was someone who enriched my own life, as he likely did for many people here this evening, and for that, I will be eternally grateful, as I’m sure everybody else will.”
The presentation also highlighted his innovations in farming practices, improving soil health and crop rotation strategies.
Foster passed away in June, at the age of 93.
