Belleville police responded to 76 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on December 12, 2024 to 5 a.m. on December 13, 2024.
Arrested on Warrant
On August 16, 2024, a 40-year-old Belleville man entered into a release order on charges of spousal assault and failing to comply with a probation order. There were a number of conditions the male was to abide by as per the release. On October 2, an officer conducted a compliance check to ensure the male was abiding by his conditions. Through the investigation, the officer determined that the male was breaching his conditions. As a result, a warrant was issued for the man. On December 12, 2024 at 8:47 p.m., officers located the male in the city’s east end. The male was arrested without incident and he was held in custody on the strength of the warrant. Further investigation revealed that the same male was also wanted by a neighbouring OPP detachment for seven counts of failing to comply with a release order, four counts of failing to comply with a probation order, mischief under $5000, uttering threats and criminal harassment. The Belleville Police Service notified the OPP of the arrest.
The Belleville Police Service will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
Attempted theft leads to Trespass Notice
On December 12, 2024 at 9:28 a.m., Belleville police were called to a business on Front St regarding an attempted theft. Police attended and spoke to the store owner who advised that a male and female entered the store, picked up merchandise and attempted to exit the store without paying. Staff confronted the pair who both stopped and were cooperative. All of the merchandise was returned without incident. At the request of the store owner, both adult parties were trespassed from the business.
Single vehicle collision leads to three-day licence suspension and careless driving charge
On December 13, 2024 at 5:13 a.m., Belleville police responded to a vehicle in the ditch near the intersection of Thrasher Rd and Hwy #37. There were no reported injuries and alcohol was determined to be a factor in the collision. As a result of the investigation, the 34-year-old female driver from Belleville was issued a three-day licence suspension and charged with carless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
