It was a packed house at Dinkel’s restaurant in Belleville’s downtown on Monday, as the YMCA of Central East Ontario (Belleville/Quinte West branches) announced their winner of the annual Peace Medal. The 2024 winner for the Quinte region is Kristin Crowe (an extended bio of Crowe’s accomplishments is available at the bottom of the article).
As part of YMCA Peace Week, YMCAs across Canada present the Peace Medal to individuals or groups who, without any special resources, status, wealth, or position, demonstrate a commitment to the values of PEACE through contributions made within their local, national, or global community.
YMCA CEO President Dave Allen spoke about how Crowe is an individual who can enter a room and light up the space.
“Radiating warmth and positivity. You are one of those rare individuals. The moment you step into a room, it’s as if the atmosphere itself brightens. You have the incredible ability to lift up the spirits of those around you, simply by being yourself.”
Kristin Crowe:
“Thank you all for taking the time to be here today. Thank you for all that you do for our community. Thank you to the YMCA.”
She says she cannot help but reflect on the amount of love she has received in the last year.
“And thanks to so many people in this room and this community at large. I continue to gain strength from all of you, and good will to all. Thank you so, so much (applause).”
